John J McKenna’s most recent poem to appear here was If sought (May 2011). Here’s a lovely bit of summer for August.

#6 Uptown: Summer
By John J McKenna

City speak jump and jive
Summer streets sing and saunter
push break dash pause turn
laugh holler howl giggle sigh “Hey”

Pace up–this day is moving
Hot to Cool
Cocoa later, milky creamy ice coffee pow Now

Clear diamond glass ice tonic
gin to welcome
soda pop sip
sweet lips kiss
“Mine Oh Mine Oh Mine!”

Shoulders to show
shades to the glow glare
She is smiling
I am smiling
and I’m not even there yet
