It's just poetry, it won't bite

Reminiscence and Return

03.09.11 Posted in today's words by

This is the first Ray Brown poem to be published at vox poetica. Ray began writing during a personal crisis in 1987 and continued sporadically while going about his day. In December 2008, his blog went live and since then Ray’s poems have been published in more than a dozen journals and he has become a popular reader at a number of live venues. Listen to him talk about his writing on 15 Minutes of Poetry. And let’s hope this spring finds no one rejecting its advances.

Reminiscence and Return
By Ray Brown

And so I thought this one time
I’d walk the wintry evening
through the desolate cold
to find where I had left myself
many winters ago
when I chose not
to accept the springtime.

Ray, I’m catching up on some reading and found this little gem. Thanks. I particularly like the tension of the past rejection and the fact that the persona is in the same place again. The cyclical nature of life is clear and the choices are not necessarily easier the second (or third or . . .) time around. So well captured in those brief lines.
