this evening
I rock you
restive baby
I rock you
restive baby
your bare limbs and belly lush
as cushion moss
against my skin
the air conditioner
drones
in my left ear
on my chest
you ease back
to sleep
humming
humming
unfurling
from fist-tight rhododendron bud
to sprawling milkweed
puff
there is
only
this
moment
house
chair
softsmooth
singuniversal

Though my “babies” are grown with children of their own, your poem transports me back to that pure time of utter being. Thank you.
