Azra Daniel Francis’ most recent poem to appear here was Better to Forget (January 2013).
A Daily Happening
By Azra Daniel Francis
By random circumstance
Two grains
Of sand are flung together
In a desert storm.
Two grains
Of sand are flung together
In a desert storm.
The one inquires,
We have met before?
The other,
Yes, a hundred-thousand year
Or so ago.
I now remember:
Parts in persons!
You a master,
I a slave.
My whip my boot
Made me a god;
You were pathetic
Trusting truth.
And more
They friendly reminisce
Until the nomad
Friendless senseless storm
Dooms them
Eternities
Apart again.
