The Case for Winter
By John Grey
Life reduced to
its simplicities,
details unrecognizable,
everything merely snow.
its simplicities,
details unrecognizable,
everything merely snow.
Street packed solid.
Sidewalk whitened into lawn
into path into steps.
Only one distance: forever.
Fingers near fire,
throat freed of scarf,
boots shaken free,
blue skin thawing.
Everyone determined
to be warm enough
to live with one another again,
to love, not shiver.
Outside clings to
chimney smoke,
lamp posts, trembling trees,
footprints clear of people.
Nice visual. I wanted to back up near the fire.
