Tribanj
By Laura Zucca-Scott
Tribanj had a pirate’s patch on his eye
And a matching ring on his tail
He was my best friend
A boy and a dog
We shared secrets
We went on adventures
When he was still a puppy
Tribanj chased some kids down the street
He cried when I rescued him at the pound
When my Dad came home from the war
Tribanj met him for the first time
He kissed his face with delight
Mom smiled so hard I could see tears in her eyes
Tribanj understood me in silence
He stood by me when I bid my Dad goodbye
When Tribanj was ready to die
I wanted to be with him
But he went to sleep alone
A boy and a dog
We shared love
We knew pain
Precious. I think we all can associate with this poem.
