For Minnie (1909-2009)
By Kevin Ridgeway
Where will you go
with your wrinkled
wisdom,
your century old spark,
your down on your
hands and knees
cleaning the floor
and the souls
bravado,
your genius
at holding
each
child
and
knowing
what
lurks
behind
those
eyes
spinning
stories
Where will you go
when you’ve
beaten it out
of every enemy,
hugged every
loved one
breathless
and told them
every
last
thing
you
mean
Where will you go
when you die
are you still here
watching me
judging my mistakes
and laughing
please rain upon
me when those
missteps
become
too grim
and let the
righteous
sun shine
on me
when
I meet
you
again.
This made me cry and smile.
Oh, what a beautiful tribute Kevin has paid to “Minnie” and to age and wisdom!! How I wish I had known her!!
Poignant, heartfelt, beautiful. A wonderful poem.
