At Meany Hall
By Dane Karnick

After her toes

leave refuge
of the stage
Ilana stands
firmly planted
in mid-air
like a fir
weathered on
Olympic Ridge
with her limbs
defying
harsh gravity
against her trunk
which must remain
flexible as
her right arm
and left leg
branch out in
opposite
directions
withstanding
the storm
of demands
braiding
muscles
during her
one-pointed leap
that takes root
in the sky.
