Library Books
By Debbi Antebi
an eyelash, a curled-up hair
a movie stub, a dog-eared page
names circled, words underlined
notes sprawled across the margins
a movie stub, a dog-eared page
names circled, words underlined
notes sprawled across the margins
whether to try to make it yours
with new comments and marked quotes
or to tiptoe through the pages
barely seeing what others left or wrote
either way, it’s all on rent
and will be returned in the end–
your faint footfalls will follow
thousands of other echoes
Bibliophile that I am, this one spoke loudly to me!! Perhaps this will inspire me to go and “read between the pages” in a library once again-who knows what treasures are hidden in those dusty books???? I must read more of Debbi Antebi’s poetry!!!
This is great, I like “to tiptoe through the pages” line. One of my favorite things about buying used books, other than the book, is to find old bookmarks.
This one really spoke to me! Good job.
