Murray Dunlap’s most recent poem to appear here was Athens: Dazzle me (January 2011). Murray, you have chapters and chapters of happiness ahead of you.

At Last
By Murray Dunlap

With a poem
I start a new life
I begin to see again
I move myself, against all odds
to a new city
and against all odds
I find it in me to write again
and poems come to mind
So I’ll love again
after all
and at last
become happy
To the trail of tears behind me
I am sorry
But please remember
I forgot how to love
but remembering now
and learning new love for the first time
I sit and write a poem
build a fence for a dog
because it is the ordinary details
that make love real
against all odds
I win the war
and love, and am happy
at last
