Time Could Melt Away
By Julie Ellinger Hunt

We eat sushi in the dark
on a cardboard box
while Coltrane sings about love.

Then kiss on satin
sheets lying on scuffed
hardwood floors that would later

shine for Mom when
she comes to visit.
Your hand behind my head.

My limbs searching for yours.
Tangled children in
grown-up bodies

searching for our own Oz,
our glitter and gold
road leading to the finer

things. We fall asleep
just before the moon hangs
at its highest and

I can get lost in you again.
Wishing, if only for a moment,
time could melt away.

Julie Ellinger Hunt’s most recent poem to appear here was Whether … (October 2011).

What a lovely, contented, evocative poem! The sensual imagery matches the intellectual charge so well. The poem leaves me with a raised eyebrow and a satisfied smile. Well done, again, Julie.

  2. bobbie troy says:

    Beautiful, Julie.

  3. I love the romance and intrigue of this.

  4. Sarah says:

    Lovely and romantic poem.
