Thoughts
By Michael Copeland

In the box at the foot of the bed
midst the memories of long-lost loves
she found the ring of pearl and gold

Looking deep within her mind’s eye
he appeared as an apparition, the
smile intact to melt her heart once again
Of all the past transgressions he was
her favorite play thing and a mere mention
of him slammed her broadside
When he passed she was inconsolable.
But that was long ago when the mind
was sharp and easily focused.
Her memory of him is all that remains,
the laugh, the touch, his very being
living on in her heart of hearts.
