A Mother’s Watch
By Laura Zucca-Scott

When I was little
My cousin was leaving
For Australia
To marry the man she loved

So many bags to pack
So many goodbyes
I stood there and watched
While lives unfolded
And tears were shed

My cousin at the airport
Was holding her mother’s hand tight
Her mom looked at her and
Took off the watch
She always wore on her wrist
She then whispered,
Wear this
When you look at the time
You will think of me
And you will know
I am thinking of you
