All That Glitters

You may retain
through exultation
springing

that spring
in your step

springing the lock
lockstep

and yet remain
in the dark

and reason thus

laying bare the truth
like nuggets gleaming

that greedy men
might make the more
of it

might mine it
for all it’s worth

yet come up short.
