Mildred Speidel’s poem Words appeared here as part of Contributor Series 6: A Currency of Words in September. This is a different poem, but with a similar theme: love that doesn’t last.
Bed of Roses
By Mildred Speidel
She lay across his silken sheets
Rose petals scattered ’round
He beckoned her
to feel no boundaries
just embrace the love
the love that now
surrounds
He soothed away each care
He drank each tear with zeal
For in the bed of roses
Love’s the only thing you feel
She savored every moment
of love’s forbidden time
The sweet fruits of love
he offered, helped to soothe
her swirling mind
He kissed away each sorrow
yet all the time she knew
The pleasures for the moment
would be gone like morning dew
She would leave the bed of roses
She would also leave him too
Then hurry back
To where her world
Was bathed in shades of blue

Beautiful romantic poem. The ending was a surprise.
