Bougainvillea

By Jekwu Anyaegbuna

I plant a purple bougainvillea for you.
You plant a pink bougainvillea for me.

My bougainvillea brings you a bee.
Your bougainvillea gives me a dove.

Your bee signs a cheque of love for me.
My dove opens a bank of love for you.

See my dove atop your pink,
Playing peace of love for you.

See your bee atop my purple,
Spreading honey like dew for me.

Your love is breaking news for me.
My hope of life with price of gold.

Your presence makes my home a home.
Your absence makes my home a house.

When you sleep, my night is near.
When you’re awake, my morning comes.
