Brushing the Ponytail

The news had been full of it–
some cosmic dirtball bowling by
once every 2,380 years.
Brushing my eight-year-old’s hair
I heard her say,
“I know very few people
who’ll see that comet
next time around.”
The hairbrush hovered,
dug in for another stroke.
“Actually,” she added,
“none.”
The elastic band in my teeth
kept me from having to speak.

Cute!
