It's just poetry, it won't bite

Kathryn Tate Jacoby was born in Ohio but has lived in Virginia for more than 20 years. She bought her first book of poetry (Longfellow) at the age of 11 and has been writing poetry ever since. Her father writes and her grandfather recited poetry from memory into his 70s and 80s. Kathryn likes to experiment with different poetic styles, but she is guided by inspiration and conscience. Her work has been published in local newspapers and anthologies and she does poetry readings. For more information on Kathryn, go to her web site. Her poem today requires no intro because it speaks for itself.

Come and Love Me
By Kathryn Tate Jacoby

Come to me now.

Bring to me your naked soul
and share with me all
of its beauty and vulnerability …

… and I will give you mine
opened and unveiled.

There have been hurts we’ve both felt
and the malaise the heart feels
never truly subsides …

yet even with the knowing
this longing always stays,
stronger than the memory of loss.

To be loved
and to love
is the thing we all seek
even unto our dying
breath …

… worth all that we have
and all that we are.

So, come to me

and love me
and I will love you
without rules,
without restraint,
passionately, and
whole-souled
for as long as
we are allowed.
