Not Quite Tomas

crosses the church yard
with a girl that would have been Sorcha, if it were

how much more than footsteps
between us now

yet still I look
expecting him has caught my eye

there used to be horses before Cabra
sanctuary on the Liffey

our children would meet, play,
remember one another’s birthdays
