Jackie Uhlemann received her MA in counseling psychology from John F Kennedy University in Campbell CA. She started using poetry to relate to high school students in a therapeutic classroom as an intern and continues to appreciate the power of creativity for solving problems and discovering oneself. Jackie’s resolution to write a poem every day has yet to be realized, however many times she sets that goal. Visit her website, which features a monthly prompt.

Convergence
By Jackie Uhlemann

I accommodate for my lack of vision
by looking cross-eyed at the world around me;
like a soft animal searching for shelter–
limited dreams and harsh reality.
I may have been using convergence
when trying to make sense of this world.

Holding you close
strains my ability to see the other dimension,
that beautiful soul who yearns to be free,
who sees possibilities
right behind the dot on the horizon.

Imagine what the world looked like
when we didn’t know so much about it.
And we were content
to wrap our arms around each other
and stare with wonder
at the moon.
