Dear Suki: Number Twenty
By Lana Bella

Dear Suki: Tel Aviv, August 20th,
metaphor’s a window behind which
were gaping cartwheels, copper and
bruised and tattooed on my breaths.
Yesterday, today, and many others,
your words that arched over the gust
of autumn, endured on narratives of
my familiarity’s rites and deadlines.
Maybe I lost you in the flight of a kiss
or handshake, where the musk was
in the quaint amber gris notes, at the
time ennobled by nuances of affection.
Because it stirred me into resonating,
I stood in caution as though capacity
for speech skedaddled down to harbor
its privates, symptoms of a cautiously
captive, ill-negotiated as a retreating
traffic, a shelter of a golem on the hills.
