Mildred Speidel’s most recent poem to appear here was Killed by Kindness. Today’s poem is also about loss, but from a different perspective on a different relationship.
Death
By Mildred Speidel
Death seems everywhere
today
The phone rings, it breaks
the silence of night
The news, though expected
but not today
please, not today
What is your rush?
Why hurry past me
leaving this cold breeze?
I desired more time
more laughs
more dreams
but you were in a rush
Oh, Mildred. Your poem is so poignent; no, we can never be ready. Never. Thank you. Jean
A tender request from someone that still cares. Nice!
You really capture it as it is, which shows me how caring you truly are, Mils! I think you ask a question many ponder, but few can put in such poignant words. Salutations!
I wish to thank you all for your comments. It is both humbling and encouraging to me. I will keep trying!! Thanks!
This captures the feeling of loss… The time is never right and you’ve said it so beautifully.
Thank you for sharing this. Beautiful and heartbreaking.
Well said, you can never be ready.
