It's just poetry, it won't bite

A full-time writer, poet, publicist, and lecturer, Dan Barkye (rhymes with sky) writes fiction and nonfiction, short stories, and poetry, and sends his opera to the world from Israel. His book Spirituality and Meditation was published in June 2008. His work has appeared at The Critical Poet (twice nominated for Best Poem of the Month) and Cyclamens and Swords and is forthcoming at Thunderclap and Dew on the Kudzu. This poem presents a very lovely metaphor, especially for those of us in snowy winter.

Going on a first date
By Dan Barkye

Walking in a thin rain,
caressing, almost,
falling on your face,
not fast, not slowly,
over shining cobblestones
covered with a
transparent and flexible coat,
cheating with their evasive presence,
is like going on a first date,

In anticipation of which you are eager and
feel a nervous tickle in
your fingertips and in
your nape.

All is festive and earnest
for no reason.

For walking in a thin rain
is like going on a first date.
