Guest Room
By Kevin Ridgeway

surrounded by
family pictures
their faces
staring out at me
in frozen time
each of their eyes
holding mysteries
solved by the folks
in the next room

the avenue outside
is hit by the sun’s glow
everything
encircled by fences
while children
ride bicycles
along sidewalks
of secret histories

the palm trees
tower toward
the heavens
where these
stories
and dreams
rest
