Haunted
By Laura Zucca-Scott

Haunted by a past
Never lived
Violins were playing
In Auschwitz
An orchestra of prisoners
Drowning in the depth of horrors
Humankind tries to ignore

People still die
Senselessly, mercilessly
How can we not see
Bodies and souls destroyed
Every day

How can we forget
That the violins were playing
And people were dying
Because someone said so
As a supreme act of indifference
An enemy
A nuisance
A Life
