Honeysuckle in May
By Michael Carter

the sweat of my brow
follows earth’s pull . . .
stinging my eyes
passing over my lips
and the taste reminds me

i am the Salt of the earth

my sweat returns
while the scent of
honeysuckle in May
is a heavenly assault
upon my soul

perhaps the Breath of God
smells like honeysuckle in May . . .

and tastes like sweat

You’ve expressed what I’ve thought since my childhood…that God’s breath must smell like Honeysuckle. Beautifully written! Enjoyed it very much. Visit me at poetrypoem.com/poetessktj

  2. H. Larew says:

Yes! Mr. Carter’s poem catches the wonder of May. Much obliged to him.
