In the Search

I’m seeking the place of clear thinking,
And sometimes it can be found.
 
Yet—tumbled like the crenelated,
pink-to-apricot-over-cream-
and-lined-with-pearl pale seashell—
it can so easily be lost again, into
the over-turning, under-churning
turbulence of ocean waves.
Wading in deeper, I scan the sky,
observe the widths of sea,
almost certain I will find it again.
For, having found it once,
surely . . .
