Ka-Pow
By Kate Dunstan

Boom! A Ka-Pow lives in his chest.
Years of compressed–well, everything.
Joy, rage, fear … so much matter, in fact,
the truth is lost and just impressions left.
Emotions that burned brightly
now condensed into a tightly ticking mass.

Ka-Pow. That’s the sound you’ll hear
if all those years become too much.
No heroes here to stop the blast
on the brink–motivation enough, he thinks,
to keep his chest closed,
to not let himself go. Not today.
