Mildred Speidel’s poem Bed of Roses appeared here in November. Today she gives us a tribute poem.

Killed by Kindness
By Mildred Speidel

Blonde hair boy
Raised by aunt

Mother taught
him music

He wrote poetry
He read books

He wrote songs
He sang them

He trusted
He was shot
that day

because he
trusted people
to be kind

The music
in his head
went silent

The killer
went away

now he is
insane

well that’s
what some
thought any
way

Can you
Imagine?

John Lennon (10/9/1940-12/8/1980)

It’s the sort of poem John himself would have written. It’s a beautiful tribute, Mildred.
