It's just poetry, it won't bite

King of the Hill
By Marc Carver

At the entrance to the town
I jumped up onto the wall
and sat there in the sun
closed my eyes
and listened to all the people pass by
I saw one old boy looking at me up there
as if I was a king
he smiled at me
and I smiled back.

If anybody asked me what I was doing up there
I would have told them
that I like looking down on people
which is not totally true
but in the end
nobody asked what I was doing up on the wall.
