Her Ladyship
By Gregory Gunn

I pardon her sense of selfish entitlements,
I shall forgive her limited intelligence,
But accusing me of lies,
Her chameleon eyes,
These are traits so hard to excuse, my friends.

I approve her cellars of port and Pinot Noir,
Believe she deserves the Caspian caviar,
Illyrian red lobsters,
Commingling with mobsters,
Sicilian honey in a crystal jar.

I accept as well, all airs of pure deception,
But I will never make a humble exception
When she proclaims devout,
High piety without
A genuine, unpretentious conviction.

I will dismiss that oligarchic garb,
Combined with proletarian regard,
Her Baronial ways,
Her lemon-tinged word-plays:
A sophistic quota of contumely barbs.
