Misanthrope
By Marc Carver

Call me Alcestre a true hater of all men.
I once believed I was that man
but now I know I am not.
I don’t hate men
I feel sorry for them as I watch them
the things they do and say to each other.
The way they behave and pretend to be close to each other
no I am not Alcestre
but I understand why he is the man he is.
