It's just poetry, it won't bite

Julia Pistole doesn’t want to bore you by telling you she’s 15 and lives with her parents and three brothers in Clinton AR. So she’ll tell you instead that she’s going on 16, enjoys doing things that most teens find boring or nerdy, will grow up to be the first female president of the USA, loves writing poetry and essays, giving speeches, debating, acting, drawing, reading historical documents, campaigning, and staying up late to watch James Dean movies. She has two best friends who make her laugh all the time and she is sometimes required to argue with stubborn people (tedious though it may be) when she works at her dad’s pawn shop. Visit her blog. Read her poem.

By Julia Pistole

It’s more than just a step
In a mud puddle
Or the curse word that follows
More than a cup of coffee
In the morning
Tip the waitress
A pornographic picture in your head
It’s always there
The song you love
The test you dread
It’s more than a minute
That lasts an hour
When you’re waiting for the phone to speak
More than three reasons why
What if the whole world spoke at the same time?
Would you hear them?
Would you care?
Don’t.
Because it’s more than that.
But I’m not sure how much more.

Loved this poem, and I love the description of Julia. Reminds me of my own daughter, somewhat. It takes a particularly strong person to remain true to yourself at this age…kudos to you, Julia!

  2. Julia, I’m sure of one thing. You will write, act, draw and please us MORE as time goes on. I’ve enjoyed this poem with my first cup of tea.
