Revelations
By Jeanette Gallagher
It slipped into my bedroom
while I slept
and into my closet
where it altered
the anatomy of my apparel
restructured my beloved
bejeweled shoes
with moderate heels
into stilettos
crushed my head turning
hats of fur, felt, and straw
embellished with feathers,
silk scarves, and lace.
Then it went into my bathroom
to use its sorcery
to distort the full-length mirror
of any semblance of reality reflection.
It replaced my perfumes and lotions
with arthritis potions and pills
for the digestive tract
too embarrassing to mention.
It invaded my dreams
and pervaded my essence
of my youth with pestilence,
brimstone, and shrinking bone
and just before I woke
I heard its subtle
voice reveal
these are the golden years.
Jeanette creates a delightful, witty poem, yet with the serious underlay of life with “it.” So effective on both levels. Thank you, Jeanette.

Jeanette, I love this. I think it’s your best. You’ve made sense of these changes. 🙂
I agree with Sharon. A perfect balance of humor and poignancy. I love it!
