Spring at Last
By Harris Tobias

What snow is left upon the ground
Lies in ratty tatters
The new buds I found are all that matters
The seasons change
The clockwork gears grind and mesh
And raise the curtain on a fresh scene
It’s so good to look again on something green
Man that winter was so long and cold
I thought the machinery of changes was stuck on hold
Then I was struck by how little bite was left in the old man
Winter was a hollow shell
Toothless and dependent
And Spring was, for all I could tell,
Young and strong and ascendant
