The Evolution of the Law

In ancient Athens
citizens went to the lawcourts
to settle endless disputes
that in a democracy
couldn’t be resolved arbitrarily.
In modern America
citizens hire lawyers
to settle endless disputes
that always profit the lawyers,
regardless of the outcome.
