The Key
By Christopher Roe

Arthritic fingers of memory
fumble with the rusty key
trying to escape from
the lonely prison
of the skull
clutching feebly at the air
of a changed world
sinking slowly into the mist
dismissed
by the conscious,
the unconsciousness
polishes the key
and waits.
