The Last Trumpet
By Michael Copeland

The last trumpet blared from
the barren ridge, as the once
mighty army of red retreated
into obscurity.

Their disparaged leaders
stricken with self absorption,
wounded by slings and arrows
of media battles.

The revitalized ranks of blue
chanted their mantra of hope,
as they trod on the fallen
red angels of hate.

Faces of this moment in time
forever etched in the minds
of historians and politicos,
grimacing twisted faces.

The trumpet sounded again,
trying to rally the misguided,
but deaf ears could not follow,
deafened minds being empty.
