Vain to a Fault
By Michael Copeland

Mirror mirror leaning there
Aslant against the column fair
Reflecting beauty all the day
Of dreams, delight, and vanity

Looking out, and looking in
Am I heavy, am I thin
Might I behold that face so kind
Those lips of cherry tinctured wine.

Few, there are, to whom thy smile,
my spirited lovely vision of style.
Enamored now by sighted powers
love sings a song from ancient towers

And through unreal lost reflection
forgets to journey in perfection.
And what enchantment held enthralled,
loveliness and splendor crowned the call.
