Voice Within Raindrops
By Karen Jakubowski
Worry is a trapped moth
pinging against a lampshade.
Lightning sizzles;
there’s clamor in the clouds.
Nature determines distractions.
But frenzy and anguish are only masks
symbols of humanity’s rage. Believe
the voice within raindrops
splashing against the window.
Lullaby soothes deep-seated fear
hidden beneath rawhide.
Gregorian chant surges.
Most won’t listen until wizened
and weary. Get so many chances
to rise from the bayou
rife with niggling suspicions.
Unbolt the ego. Cast off the turtle
shell casing. Receive the pulsing
crescendo of storm’s war cry.
Water song calls. Recycle the salt.
Give it back to the ocean.
Push the river upstream.
Become the pink salmon.
Courage lives in rivulets
coursing down cheeks. There is power
in release, strength in vulnerability.
Chop onions if you must.
Their potency liberates.
Showers continue to cleanse.
Voice within raindrops whispers.
