Wilting on the Green
By Michael Shammas

Among tall flowers of green fields,
Just beyond that meadow there,
Stands a willow weeping, fair,
For all the years gone by.

The willow watches
Heavy,
Tangled,
Weighed by nature’s countless years.

The willow wilts
In that sweet pasture,
Dying;
Still alive.
