Christopher Roe’s most recent poem to appear here was Sliver of the Light (September 2012).
Night noises
By Christopher Roe
And the shadow swooped
and it shrieked
a startled mouse tumbled
and was carried off
against the moon.
and it shrieked
a startled mouse tumbled
and was carried off
against the moon.
And the stillness slowly filled
with night noise and movement
foraging and mating resumed
in the shadows cast
by moonbeams.
And all were grateful
without guilt or shame
without luck or fate
and the mouse is forgotten
in the grace of the moon.
…the grace of autumn upon us continues the cycle and we are grateful.
Christopher, you’ve captured the mystery aand the longing of this time of year in strong poignant words. Thank you for sharing this evocative poem.
Lovely.
