A brown wind shatters the calm
By Travis Leland

A brown wind shatters the calm
Dusky flows in currents unknown
As sleep surrounds with kisses and
Sharp stinging in the cruel cracks
Of overworked feet.

The pen continues ever on
Whistling words on pages turning
Heating with each stroke and burning each thought into
Forever, until it turns to dust.

And should the aftermath be seen
And lifted by fingers
Whorls greased with oils and salt
That stain each page with a signature
All its own, may it bring some
Comfort to the yet undeparted.
