There Will Be Alligators
By AJ Huffman

to feed on the bones of your sins.
Like a child, you will scream
for their sacrifice. I will stand
on the sidelines of anonymous
riverbanks and cheer them on,
applauding every tooth hold,
every tearing of eviscerated muscle.
Your suffering will linger, music
to my ears. I will hum
its echo for decades,
lifetimes of absence, of you
and your breathing. My comfort
will be your lack of ability to continue
to contaminate my air.
