Autumn Observes
By Molly Frederick

Again,
I’ve returned
to see long billows of sunlight
spread across
evening’s wide valley,
and then to watch
where distant autumn air
collides
with a softer kind of light
nearby.

Next day,

morning returns to reclaim
the spacious light
of evening.
Reminding both valley
and ridge across
the way—of what
once prospered,
and how it might appear
if only it could return.
