Azure Blue
By Michael Thompson

Part of me feels like a calm blue sea–
Still, while roaring waves sound.
Part of me hates sitting around.
I crave movement and laughing,
The breeze of wind on my neck.

The beach sky covers us, a giant cup
The sun my skin soaks up.
I jump the waves, wiping salt from my lips,
Waving at the passing ships.
Kites sail the sky above me,
I’m tight with the ones who love me.

Sometimes the blue feels heavy, dark, stone cold
Despite my few years, memories feel old.
Other vistas, long ago, coldness fills my bones.
I know one day I’ll go
Back–but this will always be my home.

I live in the only blue house on my street;
We are both unique.
Sky and heart
Light and dark
Sea and ocean
Old soul, yet new, too.
