Beneath Contempt
By Mary Ann Dimand
There they go, the gay destroyers,
laughing and prancing, flicking
skirt fringe and sharp nails
into pain-dimmed eyes. Crawling
in my muck, I bend
again to comb the soil. Some
of the seedlings will straighten,
I think. And tomorrow
more shit to compost.
