vox poetica – Blizzard

It's just poetry, it won't bite

Nancy Scott McBride’s most recent poem to appear here was “Road Kill” (June 2019).

By Nancy Scott McBride

Snow had fallen all night.
In the long December dark it had
drifted steadily down and settled
it’s stillness on the town. Like gauze
it had wrapped everything in sight,
muffling sound and ruffling outline,
disturbing and blurring boundaries.
Next day we were nervous ex-urbanites,
digging our bit of civilization,
hurrying to restore the borders.
The driveway.
The fence.
The curb.
