Breath

By Jeanette Gallagher

There is such strength
In drawing breath
Knowing where one ends
And the next begins

To enjoy the comfort
Of the familiar
In loving relationships
You inhale security

Illusion of permanence
Obscures your vision
You forget capricious March
Brings chaotic winds

Loss of love blindsides
Breath becomes erratic
With fear of the unknown
Fate has rained its fury

Grief has done its work
You wake to face your fears
And accept authentic strength
Begins in drawing breath

Not knowing where it ends
