Contributor Series 4: Aspects of the Elephant
I Have No Memory of Love
By R Martin Basden

I have no memory of love
but the harbor of your arms
and the shelter given daily
in your smile

Time does not exist
without you by my side
even time before the vows
that marked us one
before the world
isn’t measured in its nakedness

For I am clothed in you
even named as you
as a couplet in a poem
cannot stand on just one line
there is no me
without you
to make the whole.

R Martin Basden’s poetry (Interruption, Distracted, No Safe Passage) has appeared at vox poetica in 2009 and 2010.
